Frequently Asked Questions

Why Phis?

Your decision to pledge for Phi Zeta Tau may be for many various reasons. Perhaps you enjoy a community of sisterhood, you enjoy the cultural ties, or maybe you just want to meet more people while at school. Well, whatever your reason is, by joining Phi Zeta Tau, you will soon discover that it is a sisterhood based on honesty, kindness, love, respect, and goodwill.

What is the history of Phis?

Founded on February 10, 1983 by Dustie Isaka and Stacee Takemoto, Phis pride themselves as being the first local Asian American sorority at the University of California, Irvine to promote the needs and concerns of Asian women. We are founded by people who care, we flourish because we care, and we shall prosper because we care.

What is pledging?

Your Pledgeship is essentially a contract between you as an individual and each sister of Phi Zeta Tau. We understand that sorority life is not for everyone. Pledgeship is a time for both parties to determine whether a lasting relationship is a mutual desire. While you will be learning about our sorority, each active will be learning about you. It is important to keep in mind that it’s not our goal to mold you into a Phi. So, BE YOURSELF because our sisterhood is made up of individuals working together. It is the Phi sisterhood that you will discover as a pledge in your Pledge Class and as a Pledge Class in the Sorority.

How do you juggle pledging & school at the same time?

We understand that college life can be very demanding. And yes, at times, Phis can also be very demanding. Because Phis support your academic efforts and achievements, we feel that it is important to establish a balance between the two. In addition to your academic responsibility, Phis requires certain financial obligations and time commitment. Phis have found a working balance between these obligations while also enjoying them. Keep an open mind and in the end you’ll discover as each of us have that the lifetime rewards follow naturally from your efforts.
